چکیده
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a polymicrobial syndrome characterized by replacement of vaginal lactobacilli with predominantly anaerobic micro-organisms such as Gardnerella vaginalis, Prevotella, Peptostreptococcus and Bacteroides spp. with concurrent decrease in lactobacilli, the dominant constituents in normal vaginal flora (Ling et al., 2009). It’s an extremely common health problem for women, occurring in 35% of women attending sexually transmitted infection (STI) clinics, 15% to 20% of pregnant women, and 5% to 15% of women attending gynaecology clinics (Livengood, 2009). In addition to the troublesome symptoms often associated with a disruption in the balance of vaginal flora, BV is associated with adverse gynecological and pregnancy outcomes. Although BV is often asymptomatic, it still is the most common cause of vaginitis, and hence among the commonest reasons for women to seek International Journal of Current Microbiology and Applied Sciences ISSN: 2319-7706 Volume 6 Number 5 (2017) pp. 1442-1448 Journal homepage: http://www.ijcmas.com

Diagnosis of Bacterial Vaginosis in Females with Vaginal Discharge using Amsel’s Clinical Criteria and Nugent Scoring
Background: To determine the frequency of bacterial vaginosis in female patients with complaint of vaginal discharge and to evaluate the accuracy of Amsel’s clinical criteria taking Nugent criteria as gold standard. Methods: In this descriptive study female patients of a reproductive age group presenting with a complaint of abnormal vaginal discharge were included. A routine gynaecological spec...

Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is the most common cause of vaginitis. If untreated, it is associated with serious complications. BV is a poly-microbial, synergistic infection, involving over-growth of multiple bacterial pathogens. Vaginal flora becomes altered leading to increased pH due to decrease in lactobacilli (which produce H2O2).Although Nugent's criterion is considered as the gold standard in...
متن کاملComparison of the Methods of Diagnosis of Bacterial Vaginosis
background and Objective: Although Nugent’s criterion is considered as the gold standard, routinely a combination of various methods is used for the diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis. In the present study we compared culture, Spiegel’s criteria and Amsel’s criteria with Nugent’s method for the diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis. Materials and Methods: Five hundred and twenty seven women who attend...
متن کاملA comparison of the efficacy of metronidazole vaginal gel and Myrtus (Myrtus communis) extract combination and metronidazole vaginal gel alone in the treatment of recurrent bacterial vaginosis
Objective: Due to the high incidence of bacterial vaginosis (BV) and its resistance to chemical medications and considering the anti-bacterial and anti-fungal effects of Myrtus communis, the present study aimed to compare the therapeutic effects of the vaginal gel of M. communis 2% (in metronidazole base) with metronidazole vaginal gel 0.75% alone on BV.Materials and Methods: This research was ...

Bacterial vaginosis is the foremost cause of abnormal vaginal discharge in women of reproductive age. It is associated with adverse pregnancy outcome[1-5], pelvic inflammatory disease[5,6], chorioamnionitis[2,5,7], endometritis[8] and increased susceptibility to Human Immunodeficiency Virus[9]. Routine diagnostic procedures require laboratory expertise. As the prevalence is high [10], patients ...
